Rupert quotes through the years (Bravo Nov. 2005)

2001 'It's really a pity that brooms can't really fly. If you would miss the school bus you just had to go up into your room and speed to school on a Nimbus 2000.'

2002 'Unfortunately there aren't any house-elfs who tidy up your room.'

2004 'Is Emma as bossy as Hermione? I could tell you but than she hits me.'

2005 'Well, being famous is sort of strange but it's better than being normal.'

    Trio Interview (Bravo Nov. 2005)

Bravo: What about the girls, Rupert?
    Rupert
: At the moment my driving license is the most important thing for me. Best for me is sitting in my Opel Corsa. It's going well so far. There've been a couple of hairy situations. I can't wait until I'm driving alone through London in a classical American car. Then we can talk about girls again. (laughs)

Bravo: What attracts you on a girl?
Rupert: I don't know. Just the usual: humour. She has to be funny. And she has to have big..... (laughs). I mean, it can't hurt if she's well built.

Bravo (to Daniel): Is it true that you play golf with Prince William, Daniel? .........
    Rupert
: I admit that I play golf but I've never met Prince William while doing this.

Bravo: Rupert, how has Harry Potter changed your life?
    Rupert
: I know now what I want to do with my life. When I was a kid I wanted to become the driver of an ice-cream van. (laughs) That has changed now.

    Rupert Interview (ONE Nov. 2005)

['The shots for the ball were hell....']

In 'The Goblet of Fire' Ron's going through a few disappointments and isn't the cheerful person anymore he used to be in the last films. Rupert Grint however is still absolutely motivated when it comes to playing Ron....

Q: Which is your most favourite scene in the fourth film?
RG: That's clearly the scene we shot under water. For me that was my first diving experience, so an absolute premiere. When I dived to the bottom for the first time I was scared. But the whole film team was there for me to give me tips and help me in case of an emergency. Therefore I felt completey secure and really thought that nothing could happen to me.....

Q: How long have you been under water for this scene without drawing breath?
    RG
: Surprisingly I've never been under water for longer than 15 seconds. Out of security reasons the production forbid us to stay under water for longer even if we had enough breath. During these 15 seconds we had been accompanied by experienced scuba divers all the time. They all were equipped with air tanks and were ready to come to our rescue at the tiniest problem. Everything was planned that nothing could happen and eveything went like clockwork then.

Q: Isn't it difficult to act under water?
RG: One can't really say that we've been acting because Ron comes to his senses at the bottom of the lake and there aren't any real dialogues. Yet difficult was the scene where we emerged from the water. We were supposed to give the impression to be totally scared as if we had just escaped death. At the same time we were supposed to keep swimming fully dressed which was far away from being a piece of cake. As for me I was at the end of the day in the truest sense of the word drained....

Q: Emma has told us that the ball scene wasn't easy for her. How was this for you?
    RG
: For me this scene was pure hell as well..... It took me more than two weeks until I could keep the dancing steps in mind! (laughs) And to top the whole thing I had to dance with Professor McGonagall. Frankly I have already shot more exciting scenes.....

Q: In 'The Goblet of Fire' Ron's less naive than usually. What do you think about this change?
    RG
: It's true that Ron's not the one he used to be in the first three films anymore. Strange for me was the fact that he was more often offended and sometimes even difficult. At the beginning of the film everything goes pretty bad for him, because he has big difficulties to find a partner for the ball. After that he's jealous of Harry's success and drifts more and more away from Hermione with whom he's secretly in love. But is was good fun anyway for me to play Ron when he was totally sulky. I had to act all different than before, develop a different facial and physical expression but this is how this film has allowed me to advance as an actor.

Q: As you've already explained, Ron had problems to find a partner for the ball. Have you been through a similar situation?
    RG
: No, fortunately not. To be honest, it doesn't happen that often that I go to balls like that.... (laughs). I go more to normal parties and sometimes unaccompanied..... It does happen that I go there alone but than I just take care that I meet someone there. Then it helps when one's famous....

Q: Do you think you will do the fifth Harry Potter film as well?
    RG
: Even though nothing's finally decided yet I think that I will be in the next film, if they still want me, that is! (laughs). Ron's character's not annoying me yet and I even have to admit that over the years we become more and more similar. I haven't read all the books yet but I'm anxious to find out what else is in store for him.....
