Actually Ron was supposed to have his first big ‘Quidditch-Game’ in this book but it had been cut off from the script. Have you been disappointed?
RUPERT GRINT: What am I supposed to do. The books are so thick – you just can’t film them in their entire length. Also, I’ve heard from the boys that it was a rather painful experience to sit on that broomstick all the time. So I was probably pretty lucky.
Daniel Radcliffe had his big kissing scene in this film. This will be in store for you in the next film. Are you dreading this or are you even looking forward to this?
GRINT: Mmmh, I don’t know…. I had a little kissing scene before and that was a rather uncomfortable experience. The entire film team is standing around you and watching you. I can’t really say I’m looking forward to this. But it will probably be interesting to kiss Emma.
What do you think will happen in the 7th and final volume?
GRINT: Everyone of us has their own theory and I can hardly wait to finally lay my hand on the book. The big question is of course: Who will die?
What’s your theory?
GRINT: Well, it’s pretty likely that Harry has to go. Because if Joanne K. Rowling kills Harry she’ll never have to write another book.
You could become the hero then.
GRINT: I like that idea! ‘Ron Weasley and the Philosopher’s Stone’. That sounds good.
Have you become friends, Emma, Daniel and you?
GRINT: Yes. I can really say that with a clear conscience. We’ve all become good friends. I even miss the two of them. We haven’t seen each other very often between the films because every one was very busy. But now I’m really looking forward to the beginning of the new shooting.
Are you used to the life of a film star in the meantime?
GRINT: My actual life hasn’t really changed that much. But of course there’s this public part as well und this one’s really strange. I still find it weird to get recognized in the streets by totally unknown people. They are always very nice but it is a bit bizarre. Well, there are also some crazy ones and it always depends from which country the fans are coming.
What do you mean?
GRINT: The most insane are definitely the Japanese. On the one hand they are completely beside themselves when they see you, on the other hand they are incredibly polite and start bowing immediately. And they send you really crazy stuff. I’m getting a lot of pyjamas from Japan. They seem to be a popular gift there.
But Pyjamas aren’t really crazy.
GRINT: Hang on, I’m just getting started. Some fans send religious videos. I don’t even watch them any more in the meantime but normally they are somehow about Jesus.
Agreed, that’s really crazy. Has Daniel different female fans than you?
GRINT: I don’t know, to be honest, I have never really compared them but our fans have definitely become grown-ups with us.
It shouldn’t be a big problem for you to find a girlfriend. There are probably even to many candidates.
GRINT: I’m getting a bit more female attention than in the past, that’s certainly true but it’s also difficult. That must sound like complaining on the highest stage now but I don’t find it easy to distinguish between who’s really honest with me and who only wants together with me just because I’m playing Ron. I don’t have that much time to go out and get to know girls either.
Are there romances on set?
GRINT: We had a bit of that when we started but in the meantime we’ve all become more grown-up and more reasonable. Also, we all know each other very well in the meantime. The team hasn’t changed much and we’re like a big family.
Have you already purchased something really expensive with your salary?
GRINT: After I had passed my driving test I bought myself an ice cream van. You know, one of these vans in which the Italians drive around, selling ice cream. I’ve always wanted one of these!
And you’re driving around in London with it?
GRINT: Yes. It’s really cool. It’s got two windows on the site which you can open. There’s even a little kitchen in the back and of course a huge refrigerator. I don’t know really, somehow I’ve always been interested in the ice cream industry in general. So I love driving around now, listening to the ‘Arctic Monkeys’. That fits, doesn’t it? Only sometimes I feel a bit guilty when I see all these disappointed children outside because I’m not selling ice cream.
If you’ve got a date, do you pick up the girl with the van?
GRINT: Of course. And women seem to love the van. I’ve already been very successful with my ice cream van….. (laughs).
What would the woman of your dreams look like?
GRINT: Ah, I’m not fuzzy there. To me it’s important that she’s got a good sense of humour. In terms of the rest I’m absolutely flexible. Emma Watson probably has a long list concerning her dream man. I’ll bet you! (laughs)
Do you have your own flat?
GRINT: No. I’m still living at home. My own flat in London would be too stressful for me at the moment. I’d probably never have some peace and quiet.
What are your plans for the time after ‘Harry Potter’?
GRINT: I’m not 100% sure. I certainly want to keep acting by some means or other. I’ve been thinking about this more often lately because the project will end in the foreseeable future and to be honest I’m already a bit sad because of that because it was a big and important part of my life.
