RG.net's First Interview with Rupert
Julia: Hi, everyone! Welcome to RupertCast, Episode 5 - The Valentine's Day special. Today is February 13 th and love is definitely in the air - for Rupert, that is.
[Intro music plays]
Claire: Hi, guys, welcome to the Valentine's Day RupertCast, I'm Claire.
Stephanie: I'm Stephanie.
Julia: And I'm Julia, joining you from Texas.
Claire and Stephanie: Yay!
Claire: Guys, Julia is a new host, so, um, we're gonna welcome her to the show. Welcome to the show!
Stephanie: Welcome, Julia.
Julia: Thank you, thank you.
Claire: And, did you wanna tell us a bit about yourself?
Julia: Sure, um - I'm 16 years old and I'm a junior in high school in Texas. And I'm a cheerleader. And I love Rupert!
Stephanie: And she's met pretty much every celebrity alive.
Claire: She really has.
Julia: Sure.
Claire: She really, really has. Um, okay, guys, what we're gonna do today, we've got - we've got a really fun show, we've got a few announcements to do. Um, and . . . we're gonna kick off today with the news. First up today, we've got - we're gonna mention something that happened a wee while ago, probably that you all know. Um, RedCast, or should I say, R.E.D.Cast was launched last month on January 17 th. It was a collaboration of three websites of the Harry Potter trio, RupertGrint.net, EmmaWatson.us, and DanielRadcliffe.com. It was hosted by Ben from EmmaWatson.us, Jenna from DanRadcliffe.com, and me! And if you'd like to listen to the show, it's now on, um, iTunes, so - R.E.D.Cast, and you can listen to it.
Stephanie: On January 18 th, we mentioned a Valentine's Day project for 2006. It's a mixed CD that we're making for Rupert of the songs that he might like. Um, we already have all the songs picked out and we'll announce them later on in the show.
Claire: Finally, it took us ages.
Stephanie: Yeah, finally!
[Laughter]
Stephanie: So, yeah. Stay tuned for the rest of the show to find out what songs we picked. And thanks, everybody, for your submissions, because there really were a lot.
Julia: And, um, I'm not sure if this is too much news, but if anyone saw the picture of Rupert in the Gingerbread man T-shirt, how hot was that? I mean, the T-shirt was kinda crazy, but, if you haven't, uh, seen the picture yet, it's up on RupertGrint.net and you can find it - I think it's near the bottom of the page, probably. And, uh, speaking of crazy T-shirts, we all know Rupert and his love for those artistic tees. We have a little project planned for Rupert's 18 th birthday. And we'll talk about that later, but . . . stay tuned.
Stephanie: There's also a Dutch poll going on to vote for Rupert as person of the year. He's currently in the 50s, I think. So if you wanna vote for him, we will have a link up on the sidebar. So yeah, make sure you go vote for him!
Claire: There's quite a few. There's quite a few polls that he's up for now. Did you see the one that you just mentioned? Was that like a Dutch poll or something?
Stephanie: Yeah, that's a Dutch poll.
Claire: That's a Dutch poll, okay. Um, next bit of news -
Stephanie: I think it's Dutch.
Claire: I think it is - I think it is a Dutch poll. Um, the next bit of news we've got is we have a new video on the site of Rupert saying his name in Chinese. It's really funny, because, if you guys can imagine Rupert trying to say his name in Chinese, you can only imagine . . .
[Laughter]
Julia: [Tries to say ‘Rupert Grint' in Chinese] Something like that.
[Laughter]
Claire: I know - I know that I find it really hard to say something in Chinese. Um, so he can't really say it right, but it's fun to watch and it's really good.
Julia: It's fun to watch him try. Attempt.
Stephanie: Yeah.
Julia: Okay, and if you have noticed - if you haven't, uh, make sure you stop by the RupertCast section on the website. It has been made over by, um, the lovely Amy, who did a really great job, didn't she, guys? It looks nice.
Claire: She did.
Stephanie: Oh, yeah. Definitely, very. And, finally, there are some scans of articles, interviews, and pictures of Rupert and other Harry Potter actors from a bunch of different magazines from around the world. And we've even got some translations from those magazines, which have some new-ish interviews. So make sure you check those out on the site, and if you guys ever wanna send in any more scans, we're more than happy to take ‘em. Just send them to staff@ [at] RupertGrint . [dot] net.
Julia: Yay, scans!
Claire: See, it was kind of a - it wasn't a slow news month because, you know, we had - we had some big news about “Driving Lessons”, didn't we? But, um, it wasn't really a slow month.
Stephanie: Yeah.
Julia: We had that whole, um, quarrel about whether or not it was coming out.
Claire: Yeah . . .
Julia: I mean, in the U.S., or if it was coming out the week of - we found it might come out in a week, and everyone was kind of sitting in and wondering about it.
Stephanie: We still don't know, like when exactly it's coming out.
Julia: Or if it is even coming out in the U.S.
Claire: Yeah, I mean, we've - we've got -
Julia: Do we know that yet?
Stephanie: No.
Claire: We've got - we've got a kind of discussion about this planned for later on in the show, um, but it was - it was for me, anyway, it was really good to kind of have a set date, at least, when the film was gonna be shown. Because I was starting to think it was never gonna appear. Um, but yeah, we'll talk about that.
Stephanie: Yeah, that's true.
Claire: We'll talk about that later. We'll talk about that a wee bit later on.
Julia: And for our main discussion today on RupertCast, we're gonna kick it off with, uh, the interview with Rupert's stunt double, David. We were very lucky to get that.
Claire: We were. Really lucky.
Stephanie: We were, yeah. He was nice - it was nice of him to do it, too.
Claire: It was, no it really was. I mean, like a lot of things that we do here on RupertCast, it wasn't planned.
[Laughter]
Stephanie: We were just kinda like ‘Hey, let's interview him!'
Julia: And we got a response. But it's cool.
Claire: What happened was, we got, uh, we didn't - we didn't sit down and talk to him, it wasn't one of those interviews. Um, what happened was his agent, um, one of the agents e-mailed us, and I e-mailed back and was like ‘Oh, would David like to do an interview with us?' And she e-mailed back and said ‘Yeah, we can organize that!' Which was quite cool, because, you know, David's his Harry Potter stunt double and he's also his “Driving Lessons” stunt double. So, um, there was - there was kind of confusion over a lot of issues about that, you know, if being on Harry Potter is how he got into “Driving Lessons”, and um . . .
Stephanie: What exactly his job is. Like, what does a stunt double do.
Claire: Uh-huh, um, and the questions were decided by me and Steph, just really randomly, weren't they?
[Laughter]
Claire: But they sounded really good at the end.
Julia: Yeah, they were.
Claire: They sounded really good in the end, but they were kind of random for us. Um, so we basically - if you haven't seen the interview, what we did was we asked him how he got the part in Harry Potter. Um, and he basically said back that was through his casting agent. And, you know, the casting people get to choose who's - who's, um, who is who's double. Um, we asked him if he would consider acting in any films in future, and this - this really surprised me, because we must have sounded a bit silly, because it turns out that he's
acted . . .
Stephanie: Um, yeah.
Claire: One of the films that he acted in was like, James Bond's “Die Another Day”.
Julia: Uh-oh, James Bond.
Claire: And, um, he's actually acted alongside Michael Caine.
Stephanie: Oooh, yes he has.
Claire: Um, so it's like, two big names. Um, so -
Julia: Is he like, the - I don't know, like the knight of stunt acting?
[Laughter]
Stephanie: Yeah, you could definitely consider him that.
Julia: I don't know, the head honcho of stunting. Of stunt doubles.
Claire: Definitely. No, but it's quite cool - it's quite cool to learn about like what he does and stuff, um -
Julia: Oh, yeah.
Claire: But we did ask him, because you know, obviously everybody thought - after we saw, um, I'm not sure exactly who it was that posted the, you know, the information about David up and that stuff. I can't remember exactly who - how, you know, it all got in, to the fact that we knew that he was Rupert's stunt double. But, um, we did ask him if working with Rupert on Harry Potter led to him working on “Driving Lessons”, and he said, you know, he wasn't too aware of how much a part it played. Um, but I think it must have had something to do with it, because he does -
Stephanie: Probably.
Claire: Yeah, because if you look at the photograph, he looks - he doesn't look too much like Rupert, he does look a wee bit like him.
Stephanie: Just a little - it's the hair.
Julia: A wee bit like Rupert?
Claire: A wee bit?
[Laughter]
Julia: A wee bit. But I thought he really looked to me like someone that would fill in for Malfoy at first.
Claire: He does look a bit like Malfoy. See, when he doesn't have his wig on.
Julia: Yeah, ‘cause he wears that orange wig, right?
Claire: He does.
Julia: Or ginger. Ginger!
[Laughter]
Claire: That's what's so bad, because we do - we call it ginger in the U.K., but you guys call it orange. Or do you call it ginger? Or redheads?
Stephanie: We call it redheads, yeah.
Claire: Redheads, okay. But you just mean ginger. Um, so . . . we also asked David, let's have a wee look - we asked him, um, I kind of - I think, it was, you know, either me or Steph, that said this - we asked him if, um, on any of the movies he's worked on, which actors did he get on better with and why. And me and Stephanie were so sure he was gonna come back and say like Daniel Radcliffe, Tom Felton, Rupert Grint, something of the sort, but he came back and said Sir Michael Caine. And I'm like ‘okay . . . ' [Laughs] Not exactly what I was looking for.
Julia: Oh, great.
Stephanie: He mentioned Rupert, too. And Dan.
Claire: No, he did. He did. That was what I was gonna say, he did actually mention him. He said you know, about how there was nothing pompous, sort of, about them.
Julia: Well, that's so good to hear.
Claire: Oh, it is.
Stephanie: It's like a first-hand account, almost.
Julia: Kind of like you're hearing about your own kid. You're like ‘Oh, I'm just so glad to know that'.
[Laughter]
Stephanie: Yeah, he's definitely that.
[Laughter]
Claire: Um, so, basically, the rest of the interview asks him what exactly, um, a stand-in or a double does. So he gave us a little description on that. Um, we also asked him about what he - what his future aspirations were. Um, which was basically, which is what he expected for him to continue in, and with what actors and directors. Um, and what was his favorite off-camera moment. Which I again thought it was gonna be something about Harry Potter. And it wasn't, it was about, um, you know, James Bond, and not the ice palace set.
Stephanie: He's actually done a lot of stuff, which is pretty cool. I wouldn't have thought, but yeah, he did.
Julia: Oh, yeah.
Claire: Definitely, definitely. Um, so, if you want to see the interview, guys, if you want to take a little bit more of an in-depth look at it, um, it'll be up on the RupertCast.com sidebar. Um, we're gonna start doing a new thing, which will be more organized, and if you go to RupertCast.com -
Stephanie: Which is something different for us.
Claire: Yeah, it's totally different.
Stephanie: We're getting there, though.
Claire: We're trying! We're definitely trying. So if you go to RupertCast.com, and you listen to the show just now, and you have a look on the sidebar, there should be little links for you to click on and it'll take you to where ever we're talking about. Random as it may be, it will take you there. And, um, you can have a read.
Stephanie: So, how ‘bout that, uh, “Driving Lessons” screening?
Claire: Finally! Finally.
Stephanie: Yes, finally.
Julia: Yes!
Claire: Okay, we spoke about the - on January's show we spoke about, um, we had this voicemail - we've had like tens of hundreds of millions of voicemails, ‘When's “Driving Lessons” coming out?' ; e-mails - ‘When's “Driving Lessons” coming out?' And we do feel really bad because obviously, at this point in time, we sent away many e-mails to many different people, and you know, we asked, we're trying to find out for you. But, you know, it doesn't mean we're getting them back.
Stephanie: It's like a hopeless cause.
Claire: Um, so, it was really - it was really good to know at least when, the um, you know, the kind of premiere. Because I think it is as much of a premiere as the film's gonna get.
Julia: Did we find out if Rupert's going to actually be there at all?
Claire: He's not allowed . . .
Stephanie: I highly doubt it.
Claire: He's not 18, so he can't attend.
Stephanie: He's gonna be at the BAFTAs the day before, anyways.
Julia: Yes, that's right. I'm just - I'm so excited to hear, um, what he has to say.
Stephanie: About the film?
Julia: Yeah.
Claire: Yeah, me too.
Julia: The person we're sending to watch it.
Claire: I would agree there, because I mean, it's his second non Harry Potter film, but you know, it was - it's a lot different from “Thunderpants” because a lot of the fans that he has now weren't fans when he did “Thunderpants”. Because, I mean, not to be funny, but you know - not a lot of you thought he was hot back then in a perm. I don't know, maybe Stephanie did . . . [Laughs]
Stephanie: So what if I did?
Claire: Did you?
Julia: I mean, whatever floats your boat, Steph.
Claire: Whatever floats your boat, Steph.
Julia: Typically . . . typically, people would not dig Rupert in “Thunderpants”.
Stephanie: It's what's on the inside that counts, okay?
[Laughter]
Claire: Aww.
Julia: Okay, okay, Steph.
Claire: Aww.
Julia: Aww, poor baby . . .
[Laughter]
Claire: Aww, I'm gonna move on, okay?
Stephanie: Yeah, let's - let's move on from “Thunderpants”.
Claire: So - I would love to hear what he has to say about the actual filming of “Driving Lessons”. Um, because he's got to work with so many big names. I mean, obviously working on Harry Potter he's got to work with the biggest British names, so he's probably not gonna be too fazed. Um, but, you know, working with Laura Linney, that must be quite good. Because she's, um . . . she's done so much.
Stephanie: Yeah, she's definitely an accomplished actress.
Claire: Definitely. Um, I think he will - he probably will do at some point, he'll go on some chat show or something, do you think?
Stephanie: I'm hoping, I mean . . .
Julia: I hope he does.
Stephanie: Even if it's not a big movie, at least one chat show or something.
Julia: There's - there's just been too little talk about it. And I mean, it's - from what it seems, it's a pretty much all-star cast, and it's got a good storyline and it could probably like do really well at the box office.
Claire: I think it will do well in the box office.
Julia: It might not get very recognized.
Claire: Yeah. Um . . . I was gonna say something there, what was it? Um, obviously, you know, it's, uh, from when before we were RupertGrint.net, when we were RupertOnline.net, we had, um . . . who were we told by, Steph? Was it one of Marie's friends?
Stephanie: About what?
Claire: The outline of the story and the premise -
Stephanie: Oh, yeah. We were told about a scene, like they gave a description of one of the scenes and like a kind of brief outline of the whole - the whole story, movie thing.
Claire: To be - to be honest from that, because it's - it's hard for, um, it's hard for you to find a film that isn't like another film. From the very moment that I heard about that scene, where he's - you know, Ben's the tree, and . . .
[Laughter]
Claire: What does he do . . . doesn't he praise the Lord a lot or something?
Stephanie: Something, yeah.
Claire: And he's a tree. That really made me wanna see it. And, you know, trust Rupert to do something like that. You know, it's kinda like . . .
Stephanie: That's why we love him.
Claire: What was the show that he was in . . . it's completely flown my mind, what was the name?
Stephanie: Generation Fame.
Claire: It was like that, yeah.
Julia: Oh, that was my favorite Rupert moment. Ever.
[Laughter]
Julia: Nothing will ever top that.
Claire: Nothing will ever, ever top that.
Julia: And his Grandpa, his poor old Grandpa.
Claire: I know. Had to skip.
[Laughter]
Claire: Um, so yeah. So “Driving Lessons”, for - um, it takes place, um, at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival on the 20 th of February. If you can go and see the film, obviously we would urge you to. We're sure a lot of you are, anyway. Um, and we have managed to get - Ciaran from MuggleNet.com has kindly offered to go for us. So we've got him a press pass, and he's gonna be going and review the film, and fingers crossed, talking to Julie Walters, we'll wait and see. No guarantees, there. But he'll see what he can do.
Stephanie: I am so jealous.
Claire: The Irish charm.
Julia: I can't wait. It's gonna be good.
Claire: Oh, it will. It'll be really good. But, um, as well as that - never mind that - as well as that, the day before is obviously the BAFTAs. And we've got staffer Kelle going to the BAFTAs.
Stephanie: Yay!
Claire: Now, guys, you all know, from many recordings, we always say this, RupertCast is completely jinxed. We do recordings, and you know, either the show cuts off, and it doesn't record, or you know, something happens and you know, it all falls to pieces. Um, so we've done this show before, and -
Julia: Or your power goes out.
Claire: Or your power goes out.
Stephanie: Yeah. At this pace, your power goes out.
Julia: Poor me.
Claire: Second time lucky. Um, so Kelle's gonna be in attendance at the BAFTAs on Sunday. It is this Sunday, isn't it? It is, it's this Sunday.
Stephanie: Yes, it is. It's gonna be a nice, long weekend.
Claire: And - yeah, it's like the first big weekend in a while. It feels good!
Stephanie: It does. I am so pumped for this weekend!
[Laughter]
Julia: Oh, me too.
Claire: Um, so guys, you know, Rupert - style icon that he is - what do you think he's gonna be wearing? Do not steal my line - do not steal my line!
[Laughter]
Stephanie: It's the only good line. Um, okay . . . I think he's gonna be wearing some kind of suit. No jeans.
Claire: Julia?
Julia: Okay, this is - this is my guess. I, on the other hand, Stephanie, I say jeans. I say jeans, I say a crazy T-shirt, a blazer, and Converse.
Stephanie: But it's the BAFTAs!
Claire: The Rupert-classic, you know.
Julia: You know, he never strays from that. Ever.
Claire: We should have like - we should have like little model dolls. The Rupert Classic. The Rupert Funky. You know?
[Laughter]
Julia: Oh, yeah.
Claire: Well, I did say - I said before, that I think that Rupert's gonna be wearing leather pants. I think he's gonna be wearing like a polka-dot T-shirt, and like a beige Fairy jacket. With sandals.
[Silence, and then laughter]
Julia: And a hot pink bow tie.
Claire: But it's all up to him.
Stephanie: Yes, finishing touch - a hot pink bow tie.
Claire: How awesome would it be if he listened to the show?
Julia: I think he has better style - better style than that.
Claire: You know, Stephanie's gonna be, you know, his personal dresser, like pretty soon.
Stephanie: Oh, yeah.
Claire: She's still applying for the job, but yeah.
Stephanie: He better wear those shoelaces I sent him.
Julia: Still trying to figure out how, but um, it's gonna happen.
Claire: What - what did they have on them, Steph? The little shoelaces you sent.
Stephanie: They were red and black.
Claire: Thought they were Christmas-striped, but they're red and black. What would you do if he wore them?
Stephanie: Um, I think I would probably fall off my seat. Yeah, I would freak out.
[Laughter]
Claire: Oh, I don't blame you. So anyway, right, Stephanie's done this, um, you've done a picture of Rupert in leather pants? So this is another thing . . .
Stephanie: Oh, my God. It's really bad.
Claire: You didn't think I was gonna say that, did you?
Stephanie: No, no. I was thinking maybe we should put it up on the side, but I'm like no, maybe not.
Julia: Rupert and leather just shouldn't go in a sentence together, I don't think. But . . .
Claire: You don't think?
Julia: No.
[Laughter]
Stephanie: Well, you know, from the little fix-up I did, he doesn't look half bad in leather pants.
Julia: At least it isn't pleather. At least it isn't pleather, right?
Claire: What - what's pleather?
Julia: Not real leather.
Stephanie: It's fake. It's fake leather.
Julia: Like . . . fake leather.
Claire: Well, Steph, honey, in your picture, it does kind of look like he's wearing pleather. Because it's not got the shine of leather pants, you know?
Stephanie: Well, I copied Robert Pattinson's pants.
Claire: Is that what it was? ‘Cause it looked like a good fit. Okay, guys, if you wanna go see this, it's on the sidebar at RupertCast.com. It should be under the link for the David Decio interview. So if you click on it, you'll see Stephanie's wonderfully creative, fabulous picture of - of Rupert in leather pants.
Julia: Oh, my.
Claire: Stephanie, honestly, honey, it's just such a good way to waste your time, isn't it?
Stephanie: It is.
Claire: It's like on the last show, and like, you came up with the picture, and I was like ‘okay . . . ' [Laughs] Oh, dear.
Stephanie: Okay, yeah. Should we move on?
[Laughter]
Claire: Okay, Julia, what do you have next?
Julia: Yes. We have the . . . Valentine's segment! Woo-hoo.
Stephanie: Wooo, woooo!
Julia: Right. Valentine's Day is tomorrow.
Claire: It is tomorrow. Well, it'll be today by the time you guys listen to this. If we get it up on time, which I'm sure we will.
Julia: So, it's a little sooner for Claire.
Claire: Yeah, it's - it's like . . .
Julia: A little sooner for you.
Claire: It's like 19 minutes for me. 19 minutes. Um, okay guys -
Julia: Is it Valentine's Day?
Claire: Yeah . . . yes! ‘Cause it's like twenty to 12. Yeah . . .
Julia: Oh my God! Happy Valentine's Day.
Claire: [Laughs] Thanks, honey! Happy Valentine's Day to you, too!
Julia: Yay! I don't have a Valentine.
Claire: Okay, for this segment of this show we're gonna talk about, you know, the projects that we've been doing for Valentine's Day. Um, we will make the final announcements of the songs that we picked for our Valentine's CD for Rupert, we will listen to a few voicemails . . .
Julia: Oh, that, everyone alone should wait for. Okay?
Claire: You just - you want to hear this.
Julia: You want to. Okay, the only hint I'm giving you is “Titanic”. And that says it all.
Claire: “Titanic”, um, “Titanic” - and one that you haven't heard, “You Are My Sunshine”.
Julia: Oh, I haven't heard that one, but I'm looking forward to it.
[Laughter]
Julia: They both sound great. Especially the “Titanic” one. Unbelievable.
Claire: Yeah, they definitely are.
Julia: But actually, you have to give ‘em mad props.
Claire: You do.
Julia: Because that takes guts and it's actually - I don't know, it's pretty decent, it's not like off-key or anything.
Claire: I have to say, though, I have to say, well, you know, I'm not gonna say too much, but I'm gonna say this. The people that sang - that sent us in voicemails, you know, we may be kind of like, you know, kind of like ‘oh, wow, I couldn't do that'. I've gotta say well done because you actually sound pretty good.
Julia: Oh, yeah.
Claire: Um, okay, now guys, before we get too much into the - too much into the Valentine's stuff, I've gotta ask you what - are you sending, is anyone sending Valentine's cards or do you plan on receiving any?
Stephanie: Nah.
Claire: Any secret admirers?
Stephanie: Nooo. What, are you kidding?
Julia: Uh, yeah, my secret admirer - I should be getting 12 carnations tomorrow in 6 th period from my secret admirer.
Stephanie: What?
[Laughter]
Julia: My mom did - my mom left me a box of chocolates and a card, though.
Stephanie: That's cool.
Claire: That is actually, nice.
Julia: [a la Forrest Gump] You never know what you're gonna get.
[Laughter]
Claire: Well, guys - guys, I mean if anyone out there is listening, we probably know that you're gonna be all girls, but if you'd like to send in some, you know, cute and funny Valentines e-cards for the people that work on the site, I'm sure they wouldn't say no. I'm sure they'll be completely flattered and it'll cheer them up. Um, I think I'd quite like that, to get some e-cards.
Stephanie: That would be cool.
Julia: I would like a Valentine - anyone out there listening, Julia would love a Valentine.
Stephanie: So would Stephanie.
Julia: Send it to Claire or Stephanie and they will forward it to me, because I will feel the love.
Claire: Yeah.
Stephanie: We'll share the love.
Claire: I think we should do something like, whoever gets - whoever sends the funniest Valentine's e-card gets a mention on RupertCast.com.
Julia: Oh, yeah, for sure.
Claire: Do you wanna do that?
Stephanie: Sure!
Julia: Whoever sends a funny - the funniest, THE funniest Valentine, most creative, you guys will get a shoutout and a representation on RupertCast.com.
Claire: Maybe even, if it's that good, you know, we might just -
Julia: Talk about it in the show!
Claire: Yeah, maybe. That's a good idea!
Julia: That is something to work for.
Claire: And how hard is it? You find us a funny card. We give you mega props. So there we go.
Julia: Oh, yeah.
Claire: Um, okay. So, Steph, do you wanna make the little announcement on the, um, the songs that Ashley made for the CD?
Stephanie: The songs?
Claire: Yeah.
Stephanie: Yup. All right, so we've got 16 songs, actually. Which I think is more than what we originally said.
Julia: Yeah.
Claire: It was, no it definitely was. I think we said 13, didn't we? And we upped it to 16 because they were all so good.
Stephanie: 16, yeah. Okay, so the first one is Roots by The Seed 2.0; Scar Tissue from Red Hot Chili Peppers; Back in Black from ACDC; Like a Stone by Audioslave; Mr. Brightside by The Killers; Where Did You Sleep Last Night from Nirvana; Hello, Good by No Doubt; You Shook Me All Night Long by ACDC; Fall . . . wait, hold on . . . Dance Dance by the Fall Out Boy; Welcome to Paradise by Greenday; A Million Ways from OK Go; Just Lose It by Eminem; Someday You Will Be Loved by Deathcab for Cutie; Evil from Interpol, Love is Only a Feeling by The Darkness; and finally, This Boy from Franz Ferdinand.
Claire: Pretty damn good. I'm quite impressed with those songs.
Stephanie: It is really good.
Julia: I'm not familiar with some of them, but it's good.
Claire: If I received that -
Julia: I think Rupert will thoroughly enjoy it.
Claire: Me too.
Julia: I really do.
Claire: Um, so the second part of our Valentine's Day project, because we did two - um, we, you know, we decided that they were gonna be done at the same time, hopefully they will be - was our fan letters project. I spoke to Kelle today, and she said that it went really well. She said that she has about - I think it was over 100 letters that were actually sent. Which, I mean, if you think about it, that's like - what? Is that almost a sackful, or something?
Stephanie: Wow. Pretty cool.
Claire: That is pretty cool. So, they're all gonna be delivered to, um, actual management, on - I think Friday or Saturday, we've arranged for it to be delivered? So, um yeah, that'll be quite cool. He'll receive it then. Just before - just before the BAFTAs.
Stephanie: Yeah, he can be rocking out to something in his limo.
Claire: I bet he is.
Julia: Oh, yeah. From RupertGrint.net. He'll love it. Maybe we'll get a - maybe we'll get a thank you note. Who knows?
Claire: So, probably the thing that, you know, we're all waiting to do is the voicemails.
Julia: Oh gosh, I'm so excited!
Stephanie: Oh, yay!
Claire: Um . . . should we just play them?
Julia: Yeah, they should just go.
Claire: I don't think they need an introduction.
Stephanie: Go for it.
Claire: Okay, roll the voicemails.
[Voicemail # 1]
Hey, Rupert! This is Kirsten of California. I just called to say Happy Valentine's Day, but that's not all . . . I wanted to sing you a special song. Um, my voice may sound a little weird, because, you know, it's over the phone, but hey, it's a song. So, here I go. Happy Valentine's Day!
[Music from Celine Dion's “My Heart Will Go On” plays]
[Kirsten singing]
Every night in my dreams,
I see you, I feel you.
That is how I know you go on.
Far across the distance and spaces between us,
You have come to show you go on
Near, far, where ever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart,
And my heart will go on and on.
[Voicemail # 2]
Hey, guys, this is Kelly from Oregon. I have to say, I just positively love Rupert Grint! And I think he's totally awesome. [Laughs] I've got all my friends to like him. Um, and the podcast is awesome! Okay, well thanks, bye!
[Voicemail # 3]
Hi, this is Samantha from California and I have, uh, a Valentine's Day message for Rupert. So here's a little excerpt from “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”:
The walls were all covered with large, lurid pink flowers. Worse still, heart-shaped confetti was falling from the pale blue ceiling. Harry went over to the Gryffindor table, where Ron was sitting looking sickened, and Hermione seemed to have been overcome with giggles.
"What's going on?" Harry asked them, sitting down and wiping confetti off his bacon.
Ron pointed to the teachers' table, apparently too disgusted to speak. Lockhart, wearing lurid pink robes to match the decorations, was waving for silence. "Happy Valentine's Day!" Lockhart shouted.
So, Happy Valentine's Day, Rupert, and good luck filming the next movie! Thanks, bye.
[Voicemail # 4]
Hi, my name is Hannah. I'm just calling to leave a Valentine's Day message for Rupert. Um, I moved here to England a couple months ago to go to university. I'm here for 3 years, and even though I'm in the same country as he is, it's shocking to realize how big the world actually is, and that I will probably never meet him.
Um, I did go to the “Goblet of Fire” premiere down in London, and he came over to our section twice. Um, but I was only shoved out of the way, getting a glimpse of him. It was weird feeling like I was just another, you know, face in the crowd, and just part of the blur. [Laughs] But I just wanted him to know that on Valentine's Day, there is someone out there that loves him and supports him no matter what. And, um, I just wanted to say that he's the greatest. Happy Valentine's Day, Rupert. You'll always be in my heart. Thanks, bye.
[Voicemail # 5]
Hi, Rupert. This is Darlene from Portland, Oregon, and I just wanted to wish a Happy Valentine's Day to you. And I also wanted to say thank you so much for coming into our hearts and into our lives. You are one of God's most precious angels, and I am so proud of you for everything you have accomplished over the years. You are one true angel. Happy Valentine's Day, Rupert, you're the best. Bye!
[Voicemail # 6]
Hi, my name is Ashley, I'm 16 years old and from the United States. And I wanted to wish a very happy Valentine's Day to Rupert Grint. Um, I'm a huge fan of Rupert's because's he's acted really good as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films. But the thing I admire most about Rupert is that he isn't afraid to be himself. He's one of the select few who doesn't have to act silly to entertain people. And you can really tell how down to earth he is in his interviews, because he is so real. He's really one of a kind, so Happy Valentine's Day, Rupert, have a great one! Bye.
[Voicemail # 7]
Hi, this is Monica from Illinois, I just wanted to wish Rupert a Happy Valentine's Day, and -
[singing] He is my sunshine, he'll always be my sunshine.
Happy Valentine's Day!
[Back to the hosts]
Claire: So, guys, that was our Valentine's Day voicemails. Thank you for all the ones that you sent in. They were very enjoyable to listen to, and um . . .
Stephanie: They really were.
Claire: They really were, weren't they?
Julia: Rupert's got the best fans. Yeah.
Claire: Yeah, we're the best. The best. Now, we're only gonna deal with one other voicemail this month, um, and that's a question voicemail.
[Voicemail]
Hey, you guys, um, I'm Tara. Um, I was wondering if you knew anything about how we could get “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” premiere tickets in New York or London. Preferably New York. Um, or if you know about any conventions or - that Rupert's going to be going to. Um, any kind of event, or like in a couple months. Um, so yeah. Thanks.
Claire: Okay, so Steph, you wanna answer this?
Stephanie: Okay, um, I don't think there's any way to get tickets to the premieres and stuff, unless you personally know one of the cast members or yeah, if you have your connections.
Claire: Connections, or a lot of money that can buy you things.
Stephanie: That would probably help, too.
Claire: At the present time - uh, yeah, so get a lot of money.
[Laughter]
Claire: Um, so guys, if, you know, if you do want to go to premieres, it's probably very unlikely that you are going to be able to get tickets to actually, you know, get inside and, and things like that.
Julia: But I think -
Claire: You know, you can always go and . . .
Julia: I think that, um, if you wanna like stand outside and, you know, wave, that's like, you know - and we have the behind the press line, that's always -
Stephanie: I think that may even be better than going inside to see the movie.
Julia: Yeah, it's a . . .
Claire: It's a positive experience, isn't it?
Julia: I think it would be really, really cool just to go and stand and like wave at the people.
Claire: You get a little bit squashed. From what I've heard, you'll get a little bit squashed.
Stephanie: Just a bit.
Claire: Just a wee bit.
Julia: Yeah, but that's when you start throwing your elbows.
[Laughter]
Julia: I'm just kidding. Just kidding.
Claire: You'd do well.
Stephanie: Yeah, stepping on people's feet.
Claire: Oh, my. You Americans are crazy.
Julia: I'm 5'1" with a mission!
[Laughter]
Julia: No one stands in my way. No, I'm just kidding.
Stephanie: All right.
Claire: So, guys, we've done site updates. You know, we don't have anything more - any more information on Rupert Grint quite yet. If we do, I mean, because, there's probably gonna be lots of coming tickets to win, tickets to the premiere, we'll let you know and put it up on the site, but for now there's nothing. So, sorry about that.
Stephanie: Okay, so. Moving on.
Claire: Moving on.
Stephanie: Okay, so, site updates. Um, we have a new video of the week, the avatars/icons page has been updated, um, buddy list also has been updated. And, um, what else is there?
Julia: Oh, yeah, and make sure to go check out the new RupertCast page.
Claire: Oh, yeah, if you haven't seen it, definitely check it out.
Stephanie: And make sure you stay tuned for this weekend, because it's gonna be a fun weekend.
Claire: Oh, it's gonna be a bonanza. Definitely.
Stephanie: Oh, yeah.
Claire: So, guys, just to - just to recap, kind of to wrap up, this weekend we're gonna have Kelle go to the BAFTAs, and on Monday, we've got Ciaran going to “Driving Lessons”. So they're two days that you really, really do not want to miss on the site. We're gonna give you as much coverage as we can, both from the event and from Kelle. And I'm sure that Stephanie's gonna be parked at her computer, trying to get pictures of Rupert. Aren't you, honey? She does it so well.
Stephanie: You know me too well by now.
Claire: [Laughs] I do. So, um, there'll be probably a report coming from the BAFTAs and there'll be pictures coming from Steph. And then on Monday, obviously, we'll have Ciaran. See what he can do at the “Driving Lessons”.
Julia: I am so excited about that.
Claire: Yeah, me too. And you know, one of the things that we said last time was that Ciaran's unbiased. So he's gonna be able to bring like a really good kind of review for us. Because, I mean if it was - no offense, Steph, honey, but if it was you, you'd just be going ‘It's fabulous, it's fabulous, Rupert's fabulous'.
Stephanie: Yeah.
Claire: But you know, he's gonna be able to comment a bit more on the whole film. So that's pretty cool. Now, we said earlier in the show that, um, we had a contest to do with T-shirts. Now, you know, it might have sounded a bit random, but we're gonna explain to you know what we meant, aren't we, Steph?
Stephanie: Right. Um, it's actually for his birthday, we are already, believe it or not, planning his 18 th birthday project. And the first part of the project is gonna be something to do with T-shirts. We want you guys to basically design a T-shirt for Rupert and you can send it in to us and we'll get it printed on to an actual T-shirt and send it - send it to him. So he can wear it - he will wear it. At least he better.
Claire: He will wear it. Too right he will wear it.
Stephanie: But we can't, obviously we can't, like, um, choose everybody's design, you know what I mean? ‘Cause that would be a lot of T-shirts. So . . .
Claire: So guys, if you want to - I mean, there's probably gonna be quite a few coming in, so it's not to kind of rush you or anything, uh, the deadline for it is I think we said it was August 15 th or something, which it is - like last year, it seems like a long way, but it's actually not. So, um, if you get them in basically as soon as you can, so that we can sift through them and see the best design or, you know, the best designs, we'll wait and see. Um, we'll get your T-shirts and send them to Rupert. But that's not all we've got . . .
Stephanie: I'm thinking maybe 3 T-shirts.
Claire: Yeah, maybe 3. I can't wait for these T-shirts.
Julia: And we know Rupert loves ‘em and he does wear them.
Claire: There may even be a pair of leather pants and a polka-dot T-shirt.
[Laughter]
Julia: And Converse. And Converse . . .
Claire: Ah, Converse. Classic. Anyway, that's not all that we've got going on for his birthday. Um, you know, it's his 18 th, it's a big birthday. So we're gonna - we're gonna do a few wee things. We've got one of two just now, and Julia's gonna tell you about the second part.
Julia: Yes, I am. Part 2 of Rupert's 18 th birthday project is going - we're going to announce it to everyone on March 1 st. So everyone check out the site for that. And it's gonna be an international fan project. So keep your ears open on RupertCast and check out the site, keep your eyes open for that. It's gonna be a - it's gonna be cool for Rupert for his birthday.
Claire: Yes, definitely. We're gonna make it a blast. Definitely. So guys, um, I've got a surprise for everyone at the end of the show because, you know, RupertCast, we recorded this before and it didn't work, and all this, and Stephanie actually did - Stephanie actually did a little sing-song, um, on the old - on the other RupertCast. Um, you know, and - the biggest mistake that she ever did in her whole life was sent to me in that recording, because you know, I can edit it and I can put it in, so Stephanie's got a little sing-song for you at the end of the show. Um . . .
Stephanie: Allow me to apologize now if anybody goes deaf.
Claire: I didn't, so, you know.
Julia: I think - I think I was back-up singing for you, Steph . . .
Stephanie: I think you were.
Julia: So don't anyone be surprised if you hear a little -
Claire: You were! That's right, you were. But Julia's recording - as Julia has a palpitation, she's saved from that one. So Steph's gonna be singing - this is gonna be Steph's tribute to Rupert for Valentine's Day, which was fabulous. It's beautiful, Stephanie's beautiful singing voice. But for now - this has been, this has been a great February RupertCast. A great Valentine's Special. Um, we hope you've enjoyed it as much as we've enjoyed recording it. So that's it for me, Claire.
Stephanie: Me, Stephanie.
Julia: And me, Julia.
Claire: See you later, guys.
Julia: Thank you.
Claire: Did you do your goodbye? You didn't do your goodbye!
Stephanie: I was gonna do it now! Do I do it now?
Claire: Yeah. [Laughs]
Stephanie: Oh, okay. Okay, in, uh, Greek, you say goodbye in, uh - wait, hold on, that phrased weird. Okay - I can't speak English today.
[Laughter]
Stephanie: This is the French in me coming through now, can't you tell? All right, so, to say goodbye in Greek, you say “Anti'o”. So Anti'o, everybody!
Claire: Anti'o, everyone! That sounded really cheesy. Okay . . . bye!
[Steph's special song]
Stephanie: [singing]
Quit playing games with my heart
[Laughs]
My heart . . . with my heart . . .
I should have known from the start
Na na na na na na
Oh, crap.
[End music plays]
