BIG NEWS FROM 2006
JANUARY
On 31st December 2005 Rupert and his grandad took part in the game show Generation Fame. Come January 1st, this was all Rupert fans could seem to be talking about! It was a great way to end 2005 and being 2006!
It was announced that Rupert came in 2nd place in IMDB's Best of 2005 poll for his supporting role in Goblet of Fire. It turns out he was only 59 votes behind winner Jake Gyllenhaal!
A new collection of Harry Potter dolls was announced for 2006. [Scans here]

FEBRUARY
Driving Lessons had its first ever screening on February 20th at The Jameson Dublin International Film Festival in Ireland!
Rupert attended the BAFTA Awards and presented the "Best Editing Award" alongside fellow actor William Moseley (Chronicles of Narnia).
MARCH
Beginning in late February and carrying on into March, WB began releasing snippets from the GOblet of Fire DVD special features. The DVD was released March 7th (USA) and March 20th (UK). There were also many, many promotional interviews with the cast about the DVD. Due to filming commitments for Order of the Phoenix, Warner Brothers decided not to have a launch party like previous years.
Various members from the Harry Potter cast attended the Empire Awards. Rupert, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and David Heyman (producer) were all given the "Outstanding Contribution to Cinema" honorary award.
Rupert, along with James and Oliver Phelps (Fred & George Weasley), made a stop in Rome, Italy on the 26th for the Harry Potter Movie Marathon. The Marathon screened the first three Potter flicks, and the actors were there during breaks to sign autographs for fans.
Driving Lessons news continued to come in full force! It was announced the film would now be screened at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, and the first promotional stills from the film were released. Additionally, following its premiere at the Jameson Dublin Internation Film Festival, Driving Lessons found a UK distributor in Tartan Films!
APRIL
The month started out great with Goblet of Fire winning the "Best Movie" award at Nickelodeon's Kids Choice Awards!
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was finally given a release date of July 13, 2007 for the UK and USA.
The first clip from Driving Lessons was released on the Tribeca Film Festival site! It showed Rupert's character, Ben, reciting a poem to his crush, Sarah.
On April 19, Rupert along with James and Oliver Phelps, appeared on BBC Radio 1's Jo Whiley Show. You can listen to the audio here.
Promotion for Driving Lessons at the Tribeca Film Festival was heavy! Rupert, himself, was at the film's premiere on April 30th. We received an insane amount of images and videos from fans who attended the event! New clips from the film were released, and several new interviews were also published. [MTV News] [Coming Soon]
MAY
Driving Lessons continues to receive a lot of promotion as it is still being screened a the Tribeca Film Festival....It is also finally announced that the film will be distributed by Sony Pictures Classics in the United States!
However, back in the UK, Driving Lessons was given a 15 rating [the equivalent of a US 'R'].
Rupert, Daniel Radcliffe, and Emma Watson came in at number 9 out of 15 in Netscape's Best of the British list.
JUNE
Rupert Grint (Ron), Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Emma Watson (Hermione), and Matthew Lewis (Neville) took part in a "literary themed extravaganza" which was held on June 25th at Buckingham Palace in honor of the Queen's 80th Birthday. The prerecorded segment was for the play, titled "The Queen's Handbag." Rupert, Emma, and Matthew attended the event and were seated right in front of the Queen, herself!
Driving Lessons was screened at the The 28th Annual Moscow International Film Festival in Russia. It won several awards at this festival, also, including Russian Guild of Film Critic's Best Film, the Special Grand Jury Prize, and the Audience Award!
JULY
The Summer of '06 saw Driving Lessons being played at film festivals all over the world! In July, it was played at the 23rd Annual Jerusalem Film Festival. It was also announced that the film will be a part of the Edinburgh International Film Festival in August.
Entertainment Weekly named Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger as their #11 "Greatest Sidekicks of All Time."
Rupert makes a Mystery Guest appearance on A Question of Sport as a part of the 2006 Sports' Relief.
This month also saw Rupert taking a well deserved holiday in Portugal. Many lucky fans got the chance to run into him there, and the Portugese press ran some articles on his stay.
AUGUST
Believe it or not, a release date was ALREADY announced for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince! The 6th installment of the 'Potter' franchise is expected to hit theatres on November 21, 2008. While Rupert is not officially signed onto this film yet, he has expressed interest in finishing off the series.
British station ITV announed Driving Lessons as a part of their Autumn line-up, and that the film will be playing on TV towards the end of the year.
Posters and more image stills from Driving Lessons continue to surface. The film has also been given a PG-13 rating in the USA, and a 15A in Ireland. The first ever trailer for Driving Lessons is also released!
By far the most important event of this month, Rupert turns 18 years old!
Rupert attends the Edinburgh International Film Festival! Along with this, we're buried in new interviews, photocalls, and exclusives!
SEPTEMBER
This month started off with a BANG! We barely had time to recouperate from the excitement that was the Edinburgh Film Festival when Driving Lessons had its premiere in London on the 4th. Rupert was all over the British press making various television and radio appearances. Driving Lessons was finally released on general release in the UK on September 8th.
Driving Lessons is screened in Denmark at the Copenhagen International Film Festival! It was also shown at the Aspen Film Fest in Colorado. We couldn't leave out the Brazilians, however! Driving Lessons debuts in Brazil at the Festival do Rio 2006.
Throughtout August and September, we sure got an overload of Driving Lessons. However, we can't forget Rupert's next film - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix! Filming is spotted at King's Cross station, and WB releases the first image stills!
OCTOBER
October wouldn't be the same without another film festival! This time, the film was screened at the Roma Film Fest in Rome, Italy and Canberra International Film Festival in Australia.
Parade magazine publishes a great interview with Rupert including a the now fan-favorite photoshoot!
Rupert came State-side to do promotion for Driving Lessons. Some of the cities he made a stop at were New York City, Los Angeles, Dalls, Chicago, Sacramento, and San Francisco. The film is finally released in the United States on October 13th, and earns a decent $25,800/£13,873 in its opening weekend.
NOVEMBER
HBO premieres the first look for Order of the Phoenix! ABC Family and MTV News also gives some behind-the-scenes footage.
Driving Lessons is released in Canada for the first time on November 10th.
The Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix teaser trailer is released!
Rupert attends the Children's BAFTA Awards. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire won the "BAFTA Kid's Vote" award!
DECEMBER
December proved to be a very 'dry' month. Driving Lessons, however, continued to be released in various countries around the world including Italy and Thailand. Unfortunately, we also announce that the release date for Australia has been pushed back to Summer 2007.
Driving Lessons has its television debut on ITV on December 17th. It is also released on DVD in the UK on the 26th.
